In 1956, under the direction of Robin M. Williams and John Dean, 427 women were interviewed about family and non-family roles, their health activities, and attitudes on various issues. Home Economics began as part of the Extension Service in 1900 with the arrival of Martha Van Rensselaer and the establishment of the Farmers' Wives Reading Course.
